what the heck is going on?

Every day for the past week there have been innumerable checkpoints set up. In the park, Lajitas, near Bee Mountain, Presidio and other spots in the Big Bend. I went to OJ Tuesday with Collie Ryan and for the first time, US Immigration stopped us leaving the US. What the heck is going on? Who are they looking for? Someone mentioned that with all the folks going back and forth last Saturday between Lajitas and Paso Lajitas, TPTB might be looking for people who had crossed illegally. Collie and I had a great time as usual in OJ.

boquillas reopened

Journalist Lorne Matalon got the word late yesterday afternoon that the Boquillas Station would finally be open. He arrived in Terlingua late last night and was gone before first light this morning. After more than a year of delays, crossing the Rio Grande to visit Boquillas will be possible.

spring break has broken

The hordes have left and I actually had an entire day off. Slept most of it away. My personal To-Do list is so long it will take all summer to get it all done. A couple of good friends will be leaving Terlingua soon, so we're having our last Drunk Kitchen of the season at Jimmy Holbrook's place on March 28th around 5ish. The theme is Asian so bring some food and your favorite beverage and cook/eat/drink with us.

Got a new ride. I've been looking for a Samurai for over a year. Not a fan of her color, but that's changed easily enough. I'm thinking turquoise camo.

new home

So happy to report that I found a wonderful home for the dogs that were left in an unacceptable situation by their owners. I did have permission to rehome them. Here they are relaxing in their new digs. TJ (new owner) says they are better than he ever imagined. They learned to use the doggie door he installed in 10 minutes. I'll miss the sweeties, but TJ has four daughters who have been missing their German sheperd who died in December.

It's been quite a while since my last post. We had the craziest snow January 3rd. We got 6".

Too much work, too little time. There have been and are several projects requiring most of my time away from work and I've been working on finding a home for two of the dane mixes rescued from the ranch the year before last as well. I'm the master chef for our community garden's kitchen which last month featured chard. Chard grows year-round here in Terlingua.

I went out to California (hadn't been back for 8 years) to support my sister in her fight against breast cancer. She came through surgery with flying colors and no cancer in her lymph nodes. When she starts chemo in a couple of months, I'll be shaving my head in solidarity. Support cancer research!

The internet service is less than desirable so often. When I have time to post it's down. Sigh.

Winter is a comin'. I'm wearing boots instead of sandals and a couple of layers. Today it's not too bad, but I'm still chilled. The past several days have been cloudy/overcast and we didn't get to see the Geminid meteor shower. I did see a couple, but not the full show as in past years when the sky was clear.

Last weekend a friend ordered live oysters and we gorged ourselves on raw oysters. Yum!

Not much happening but work right now. I have another kitty. Haven't named her yet.
